Community Service

I have never known a time when civic responsibility was not a part of my life. Early in my youth I was aware that both my parents were involved in community activities. My mother was the first woman to serve on the Waller City Council. My dad was a charter member of the Waller Lions Club and the Waller Volunteer Fire Department. They were active in Little League, the Waller Chamber of Commerce, school activities, church activities and other community events in and around Waller.

I believe my first “official” act of civic duty was in 1961 when, as an 11-year old Boy Scout, I served soup and coffee to evacuees from Hurricane Carla, a devasting hurricane that ravaged the Gulf Coast area. Since then, I’ve served in many other ways and in many other organizations. While less active right now due to my judicial duties, a sampling of past and present community activities is as follows:

Speakers Committee Member, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo; holder of the coveted “Big Mouth” Award;

Waller FFA Advisory Committee; Sales Committee; and, Olen Gilbert Scholarship Committee;

Waller Lions Club, Member and Past President;

Waller Chamber of Commerce, Member, Board of Directors and Officer;
